Ocean Freight – Central America

Cargo operations

Our vessels M/V Gulf Pioneer and M/V Gulf Trader provide a fixed-day weekly service from Mobile, Alabama to Puerto Cortés, Honduras and Santo Tomás de Castilla, Guatemala, sailing every Thursday. Our multipurpose vessel M/V Gulf Express, with her own 60-ton crane, sails monthly to Roatán (Coxen Hole), Honduras and Belize City, Belize. See our sailing schedule.

Cargo we handle:

  • 20' and 40' dry containers (standard and high cube)
  • 40' reefer containers – poultry, meat, produce and frozen foods
  • Cars, trucks, buses and heavy equipment
  • Breakbulk, steel, lumber and project cargo
  • Building materials, rebar, roofing and cement
  • Used clothing (bales) and household goods

We can also arrange trucking to and from the port, and on-carriage to inland points in Honduras and Guatemala through our agents.

Ship Agency

Whitmore has provided port agency services in Mobile since 1974. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in the ports of Mobile, Pascagoula, Gulfport, Pensacola and Panama City.

  • Vessel clearance (CBP, USCG, USDA)
  • Husbandry, crew changes and shore leave
  • Bunkers, provisions and spare parts
  • Launch service and line handling
  • Cargo supervision and draft surveys
  • Owners' protective agency

Freight Forwarding & Documentation

Our documentation department can prepare bills of lading, commercial invoices, certificates of origin and export declarations (AES/EEI filing) for your shipments. Spanish-speaking staff are available to help with documents for Honduras, Guatemala and Belize.

Towing & Vessel Charters

Our 1,800 HP harbor tug Miss Margaret is available for ship assist, barge shifting and coastal towing in Mobile Bay and the surrounding area. When not committed to our scheduled services, M/V Gulf Express is also available for voyage or time charter for project, heavy-lift and breakbulk cargoes in the Gulf and Caribbean.
